I have lost a little over 100 pounds!

I was unhappy with my weight, steadily increasing, but didn't have the energy, or motivation to work at losing it.  Until I was told by my doctor that part of my health challenges were 'probably weight related'.  I started in February '05, and lost 20 pounds fairly quickly, I didn't lose any more for another 15-18 months.  Even after that loss, I felt much better, and had more energy.  After a year of keeping those 20 pounds off, but not losing more, I decided that I really needed to work on losing some more weight.  I have 6 grandkids, and I wanted to be around when they grew up.  I love being an 'active' grandma and doing things with the kids.

When I started losing weight my husband didn't want me to 'diet' and be totally consumed with thoughts of food...counting calories, fat, or keeping track of points, etc.  So I needed to find a different way that would work for me.  I watched what I was eating, started limiting my portion sizes, quit eating before I was 'full', cut out sugar and sweets, and was walking 2 or more miles a day.  I had to make walking my best friend, not the pantry. Walking is great, and almost everyone can do that.

To date, I have lost a little over 100 lbs. and have successfully kept it off, by continuing to walk, and exercise, participating each year in Live Healthy Iowa as team captain challenges me to maintain the ‘new’ life-style of eating right, and getting plenty of exercise, setting a good example for my team!!

Thanks for your help!
Lisa Thomas
