Live Healthy America

As many women struggle with weight, my mother is no different.

I want to nominate my mom, and our team leader captain of Helen's Hotties, Natalie Canario. As many women struggle with weight, my mother is no different. She has gone on every diet that has been advertised from South Beach to magic liquids and pills. As long as I can remember my mother has always been a yo-yo dieter. Several years ago, when my parents got divorced, she was probably the healthiest she had been since having children, mostly due to stress. She had joined a gym and was not eating much, which was obviously not the best way to get in shape because soon after things changed again. Having to work several jobs to pay bills on her own and not taking care of herself, she put all the weight back on, stopped working out, and gained more weight than before. A few years later she lost weight (again) successfully with Weight Watchers and even became a lifetime member. She stopped going to the meetings shortly after making lifetime and slowly began to put the weight back on. Since then she has struggled with her weight, and has realized now that she is over 50 that all that weight is so much more difficult to get off with just dieting alone. I had read about the Live Healthy America challenge in a magazine and told my mom about it, and we decided to form a team. We are a family team of 5, and have been encouraging each other long distance, with each having a different goal for doing this program. While my Mom has not lost a lot of weight during the course of these 100 days, what she has done is establish the healthy habit of exercising 5 days a week. My mother has never been a consistent exerciser, but this challenge has helped her to see the value and importance in getting physcial activity. She has seen the results of what she feels like when she doesn't get that 30 minutes in and what she feels like when she has. Exercise is part of her daily routine now, and she feels great about it. The Live Healthy America Challenge helped my mom become a healthier person and establish an exercise routine that she can stick to. For this reason I am nominating my mother so she can become an inspiration to other women out there, as she has been an inspiration to our team.
